A Maud, Texas man has been indicted for capital murder in the deadly shooting of a Family Dollar employee last month.
Keshawn Deiron Wickware, 27, is accused of fatally shooting 47-year-old Denyle Pierce in the head after demanding she open the register on March 4. According to investigators, Wickware appeared frustrated when Pierce couldn’t open the register quickly. He allegedly left the store without taking anything and fired shots into the air outside before fleeing in a burnt orange SUV.
Wickware was a familiar face at the store and was recognized on surveillance footage wearing the same clothing as during the shooting. Police later found him at an apartment nearby and recovered a jacket with a matching insignia, slide sandals, and a black and silver handgun. Witnesses in the apartment told officers Wickware admitted to the shooting.
In a separate case, Wickware was also indicted Thursday for attempted assault and terroristic threats against a peace officer following a June 2023 incident at CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital. He allegedly became violent, threatened officers, and had to be restrained.
If convicted of capital murder, Wickware could face the death penalty or life in prison without parole. His cases are being handled by Judge Bill Miller, with attorney Jeff Harrelson appointed to represent him.
